As you look out from atop
this mountain past the clouds
and fog that hang in the skies,
below you and to the north
is the vast expanse of Akono Basin,
and your new home.

Long ago, a filly was born in the lowlands, possessing the power of foresight. She was taken from her parents by the King, and made the Oracle of the herd. The Kalfex attacked Edaria, demanding to see the Oracle for themselves. In the chaos of the battle, Edarian rebels moved to the wetlands in search of freedom, calling themselves Nadek. After the battle, the Queen was found dead, and The Oracle was captured. The King committed suicide days later, and Edaria quickly chose a new King and attacked Nadek. The new King was killed by Nadek horses in battle. After the Oracle died at the young age of six, the Kalfex soon began attacking both herds, realizing that if they were to defeat them both, that they could finally leave the flatlands. Now, the three herds fight for control over the basin, and each other.

This is Eternal Opposition.
Welcome to the war.
Choose your side carefully,
and be aware that the future
is no longer predictable.

[ ]Imperial Valley
[image]
The valley has the largest livable land area in the Edarian territory, and was the first herd territory established on this side of Akono Mountain in the history of the Edaria's existence. To the south stands the mountain, picturesque against the sky. Green grasses grow lush and affluent and various tall pine trees stand guard, like royal guards to the King. Imperial Valley has been described in the past as 'the perfect place to live'. This is most likely why it was chosen as the main herd territory when the Edarian herd was first forming here. The King and Queen spend most of their time here, sending subordinates out to do things, and talking with higher-ranking horses that have the privilege and pleasure of their company.

[ ]Commander's Rock
[image]
Commander's Rock is as it's name suggests, a big rock in the middle of the valley. The only thing this rock is used for is a place for the King to stand as he addresses his herd for any random reason he feels like as his voice echoes nicely over the land to be heard by his subjects. Commander's Rock is simply a gathering point for the Edarian herd, nothing more. Other horses may come here to stand on the rock and pretend to feel important, though.

[ ]Snakeskin Creek
[image]
This is the only water source in the Edarian territory, but because of it's size, the fact that it's the only water source isn't a big concern. This creek, nestled in the lowest areas of Edarian land, got it's name because of the rocks that line it's banks on both sides. This creek runs through almost every territory in the lowlands, and if you can find this creek and follow it, you'll never get lost. Snakeskin starts at where Falling Stream breaks off and goes another direction down the mountain. It ends in a trickle somewhere in the lowlands, but the exact point is unknown.

[ ]Emerald Glen
[image]
As Imperial Valley becomes more and more forested and Snakeskin Creek reduces itself to a softly flowing stream, soon enough the territory of Emerald Glen comes into view. It's very quiet here, and tree branches canopy over the creek as it passes through almost silently. Forest animals can be heard in the bushes on either side of the creek, and the forest is open enough so it's easy to walk through. It gets unusually dark here at night, because the light of the moon and stars is obscured by the cover of the trees. This area is perfect for a variety of things. Use your imagination.

[ ]Scattered Forest
[image]
The same type of tall trees that stand around in the valley, pines, make up Scattered Forest, which is a pretty sad excuse for a forest. It's a line of trees that are spread pretty far apart from each other from the northern edge of Edarian land to the base of Akono Mountain. This line of trees makes up the eastern border of the Edarian territory, and part of the north. This is the way that the Nadek horses went from Edaria into the wetlands when the herd split, and it marks the start of the Nadek territory. This border between the two herd territories is so weak that it's easy to spot when an intruder enters through this forest.

[ ]Echo Lake
[image]
At the northeastern base of Akono Mountain lies Echo Lake, a large portion of the wetlands, and the main territory of the Herd of Nadek. Varieties of plants grow in this area, and forest animals come to the lake every once in a while for the clean water before scurrying off into the trees again. Along the northern shore of Echo Lake is a usual gathering spot for the Herd of Nadek, and where the lake lives up to it's name. Because the lake is at the base of the mountain, the sound of a single horse whinnying can be heard from one side of the lake to the other. This lake, however, can be dangerous on the southern side, due to large rocks falling from the side of the mountain from time to time.

[ ]Lupine River
[image]
From Echo Lake, a river branches off and begins it's course through the wetlands. A popular flower in mountainous areas is the lupine, and in this mountainous area, this flower type is quite prominent. This river got it's name because of the purple lupines grow along both sides of this river, making the banks of the river look almost completely purple and grassless. Much like the Snakeskin Creek in Edaria, the Lupine River flows through many areas in the Nadek territory. The lupines that grow here are at their best in the summer, and get much of the water they need from the river itself. Summers where the lupines don't grow are said to be signs of bad luck to come.

[ ]Amber Meadow
[image]
Near the more forested areas of Nadek territory, a small field of golden grasses glimmers in the sun, always looking to be untouched by hooves. One tall tree stands near it's center, giving shade to those who need it. This is a quiet and tranquil place, and is where most mares would want to take their foals to romp and play in the safety of the meadow. When times are tough and gathering at Echo Lake's shores isn't secretive enough, meetings are held here in the quietness of the meadow to discuss various things of importance. In those situations, it's always safe to watch the trees nearby for any unwelcome visitors.

[ ]Azure Forest
[image]
Thick fog from the mountain hangs lazily in this forest of thin trees, giving it a blue appearance. The entire land area occupied by this forest is unknown, but the parts of it that have been explored have revealed that the forest sits atop a hill, which explains the fog from the mountain reaching to such a low elevation. It's easy to get lost in this forest, mainly because of the fog, but there isn't a river to help you find your way back into an open area here, so good luck if you find yourself stuck in a mess of blue fog and skinny trees. In the winter after the fog is cooled away, the snow piles high here, and the terrain is almost impossible to walk in unless you just happen to have extraordinarily long legs. The lonely type seem to like making their homes here, and those that have an itch to scratch tend to wait and watch for a little lost mare to appear out of the blue.

[ ]Guardian's Borderline
[image]
Guardian's Borderline is made up of tall, healthy pine trees that mark the eastern border of the Akono Basin and the eastern border of the wetlands. This forest is deep and it's complete land area is unknown because no horse has dared to explore into it's depths, fearing they'd get lost and never find they're way back home. Peaks of other mountains are seen high above the treetops, reminding the horses not only belonging to the Herd of Nadek, but everywhere in Akono Basin, that there is indeed life out there beyond Akono Mountain and beyond the thickest forests. Most Nadek horses stay just outside the treeline of this forest, eat the lush grasses that grow there, then quietly make their leave, as if they felt ashamed for disturbing the trees that guard the eastern border.

[ ]The Hillside
[image]
The majority of livable land area in loner territory is The Hillside, the flatter portion of the north side of Akono Mountain. These hills provide a beautiful view of Akono Basin, and of each herd's territory below. The Falling Stream runs over these hills, making it's way down the mountain into Echo Lake. The Hillside is a fairly open area overall, but there are small groves of trees and grey rocks here and there to provide shade, shelter, or a place to hide if needed. On The Hillside itself, there isn't really much to see. This area isn't too steep, and it's far from the constant fighting and the war itself. Lush, green grasses coat the hills for most of the year, but when winter falls on loner territory, this area sees some of the deepest snow.

[ ]Dosia's Tree
[image]
Just above the treeline of the Misted Forest, where the unknown peak of the mountain waits in the skies, a lone tree stands bent, hunched over, and windblown. During a fierce summer storm years ago, this tree was struck by lightning and was found later split vertically about halfway down it's trunk. The tree was named after a young filly that died from unknown cause during the same storm while taking shelter in the Misted Forest. The tree can be seen from The Hillside, and some claim to have seen it from farther away. Only pine trees grow on the mountain, save this one exception. Some believe the tree is sacred, like a spirit is watching all of us from the mountain, and others think it's an evil omen of destruction to come. Now this area is a quiet place, where one may come to think, rest, or meet another horse secretly. Many horses tend to avoid this area because of it's history, yet some are drawn to it and seem to spend all their time here.

[ ]Misted Forest
[image]
Much of the north side of Akono Mountain is part of the Misted Forest, made up of tall pine trees, which is shrouded in the usual fog from the mountain for the majority of the year, or whenever the clouds hang low. This is similar to Azure Forest, but without the blue. The forest's name explains it all. This is the deepest forest next to Guardian's Borderline, and is where many loners spend their time. The forest is so large that there always seems to be something new every time you visit. Wether you stumble upon a clearing, a little glacial pond, or if you follow a tributary of the Falling Stream to a strange-looking rock formation, there's always something new to discover. This area always seems to be very peaceful, and forest animals such as deer are usually seen roaming about among the trees.

[ ]Tower Point
[image]
Above Dosia's Tree, a ledge flattens out, giving whoever stands there the view of everywhere from The Hillside to the flatlands. Tower Point is the highest livable land area on Akono Mountain and in loner territory. Above this is Akono Glacier, which is a pile of alpine snow for most of the year, except for a few summer months when it's too warm and the snow melts. After Tower Point, the rest of the mountain all the way to the summit is dangerously steep, and impossible to climb. Tower Point can be a romantic place at the right times, but in the winter this area is usually covered in snow that piles as high as five feet, and hard to climb up to from the treeline of Misted Forest. This area is not a recommended visiting spot for those that don't have sure and accurate footing. It's easy to slip and fall while climbing up or down if you put your hoof in the wrong place.

[ ]Falling Stream
[image]
Falling Stream, said to have the cleanest water in Akono Basin, starts at Akono Glacier, locted just above Tower Point, and as the snow from the glacier melts, the water cuts a path all the way down the mountain through loner territory and eventually into Echo Lake in Nadek territory. The stream begins as a small trickle, and as it moves down the mountain it grows. This stream is cold year-round and easily freezes over in the winter. Falling Stream is the main source for every lake, river, and creek in Akono Basin, and is seen by some as the beginning of all life in the area. This stream got it's name simply because from far away, the stream looks to be falling down the mountain. Besides small glacial ponds that are scattered throughout The Hillside, this is the only water source in loner territory.

[ ]Dead Plain
[image]
Oftentimes jokingly called 'Plain Dead' by the residents, this vast expanse of land easily lives up to it's name. A large amount of horses can live here at once because of the total land area occupied by this plain. It's called 'plain' for a reason; there's basically nothing here besides short, dry grasses and a few scraggly trees. This area is so large that it covers most of the livable flatlands. When the rains fall upon this land, the storms are violent and tornadoes are commonly seen in the summer months. Winter is bitterly cold, and summer is unbearably hot. The horses that make their meager homes here have adapted to the territory over the years, their fur thinner and shorter and their hooves strong and durable. Horses that live here are often referred to as 'savages', because of their differences from the other horses in Akono Basin.

[ ]Shady's Grove
[image]
This is no where near as large as a regular forest, but it's the largest amount of trees in the entire flatlands. These small, weak, sick-looking trees grow up from the brown grasses of Dead Plain, and stand like demons against the sky. Horses that like to be alone or those who seek a quick escape from the sun tend to like it here. Eventually this group of little trees became known as Shady's Grove, where the lonely take refuge when there's no where else to go. Sure, these trees have nice-looking green leaves, but they're tough and thick and difficult to chew and swallow. The Kalfex horses have gotten used to the taste, and some flatland residents walk for miles to hide from the sun under the little shade provided by these little, scraggly trees.

[ ]Outlook Mesa
[image]
Outlook Mesa is a very awkwardly placed landform, right in the middle of the Dead Plain. It's a short mesa, and fairly easy to climb to the top of on the south side where it's not as steep. Small bushes grow around the base of this mesa, but the rest of the ground in this general area is rocky and barren. The mesa does provide a small amount of shade at certain times during the day, and it is rumored that somewhere around Outlook Mesa, there is a small cave or a hole in the ground where an underground river runs. It hasn't been found yet, but some horses in the past have devoted much of their lives looking for it with no success. The name is simple; when one reaches the top of Outlook Mesa, they are able to see much of Dead Plain, the location of Shady's Grove, and the location of Rusted Pond, which is one of the most difficult places to find in the flatlands.

[ ]Rusted Pond
[image]
Rusted Pond is the only water source in Kalfex territory, besides when the plains flood during rainy seasons, and is not very large. Flatland residents travel for days, and if their sense of direction isn't very good, weeks to find this little pond. It's a very difficult place to find, and those that can't find it usually die from lack of water. Generally, weaker horses spend a lot of their time here, because they can't last very long on the plain without water. The pond's water is hot and brown in color from the dust and dirt that blows across the plain, but it's more than good enough for the horses of the flatlands. Small green plants grow near the pond's banks, and as soon as they appear in the spring after the rains, they are devoured by any horse that manages to find them. These plants are becoming more and more rare every year.

[ ]Borderline Pastures
[image]
As the Dead plain drags lazily on to the west, it gradually becomes the vast expanse of desert now known as Borderline Pastures. Only the stupid and suicidal leave the plains to come here purposefully, and oftentimes exiled Kalfex members are left here and have to either find their way back to the plains or die in the process. There is literally absolutely nothing to see out here besides a blank blue sky, a few passing little white puffy clouds, sand, and broken, dry, dead ground. Nothing grows here, and the entire distance taken up by this desert to the west is unknown, mostly due to the fact that no one has gone far enough to know how big it really is and is still alive today. If you're looking for a place to die off slowly from starvation, you've found it, here it is. Kalfex brutes sometimes make bets as to who is stronger to see who can last a few miles off from the plain in the desert the longest without running back for food and water. Those that have been here and survived oftentimes refer to it as 'hell on earth'.
