As you look out from atop
this mountain past the clouds
and fog that hang in the skies,
below you and to the north
is the vast expanse of Akono Basin,
and your new home.

Long ago, a filly was born in the lowlands, possessing the power of foresight. She was taken from her parents by the King, and made the Oracle of the herd. The Kalfex attacked Edaria, demanding to see the Oracle for themselves. In the chaos of the battle, Edarian rebels moved to the wetlands in search of freedom, calling themselves Nadek. After the battle, the Queen was found dead, and The Oracle was captured. The King committed suicide days later, and Edaria quickly chose a new King and attacked Nadek. The new King was killed by Nadek horses in battle. After the Oracle died at the young age of six, the Kalfex soon began attacking both herds, realizing that if they were to defeat them both, that they could finally leave the flatlands. Now, the three herds fight for control over the basin, and each other.

This is Eternal Opposition.
Welcome to the war.
Choose your side carefully,
and be aware that the future
is no longer predictable.

'cause love is nothing to waste, and i swore, never your heart should i break
the two toned femmora's flints fell lightly against the rocky path leading toward the snakeskin creek. her auds flickered atop her poll, listening to the sounds that surrounded her. the symphony of birdsong and smaller creatures chattering beneath the underbrush and in the trees above did not distract her from being alert; she was always paying almost too close of attention to her surroundings. the femme was paranoid, to an extent. she kept to herself, she minded her own business, and the last thing she wanted or needed was someone sneaking up on her to mess with her for any reason. there wouldn't have been any reason for it to happen, true, but she had come to realize at a young age there was actual reason for very little that went on in the world. nobody needed a reason anymore. they just acted. it wasn't really something she was fond of but it was the truth, nonetheless, something she was forced to live with, as was everyone else.

she made it down to the edge of the aqua, the muscles beneath her glimmering rust and white patterened coat relaxing a bit. her auds continued to flicker, though, as she dipped her dial down, nares flaring as she stuck her mugs to the water's surface, beginning to drink quietly. her soft hazel orbs focused at her sides, not noticing anyone around. it got a bit troublesome, sometimes, she would admit, always being alone. there were some days she felt it was easier to be lonely; there were others, like today, where she wished for some kind of interaction. there was no real reason, after all, for her to be so lonely all the time. she was a perfectly nice mare, though reserved. she was young; she should have been out frolicking around instead of worrying herself constantly with being cautious. but that was just how diamond had always been; it was how she'd had to survive and now, the only way she really knew how to do so. in the little time she'd had with her mother as a young flicka, she'd picked up some of her dam's more troublesome habits. one of them was being a little too anxious all the time.

she finally lifted her dripping kissers from the water, flicking her crown slightly to move her long tresses from her orbs. she sighed softly, pink nares rippling gently with her breath. she pivoted, beginning to pick her way down the creek's edge, headed for nowhere. she had nowhere to be and no one to see; and so, as seemed to be routine, she just wandered by herself, banner swishing absent mindedly at her flanks to keep any bloodsuckers at bay. her hazel opticals continued to roll around, taking in the site of the creek and of the surrounding foliage, but it was all the same as it had been yesterday, and the day before. it got boring, having nothing to do but.. well, worry all the time, and think far too much.

It was a wicket of wild wind
Blew down the doors to let me in
Shattered windows and the sound of drums

The hessian's hooves rose and fell slowly as he wound his way over the rocks and stones that littered the trail that lead towards the stream called Snakeskin. His steps were slow, but they were in no way what one might call thunderous; no, they were fairly silent. His heavy, thick chassis swayed lightly as he moved, wavy vines waving with his movements. His banner flowed out behind him as he slid into a slow trot, keeping blood-red gems resting on the sod below him so as not to stumble over a rock or perhaps a small stone underfoot.

The stallion arched his neck slightly, the path beneath his hooves melting away into solid land. The rushing, babbling sound of water in motion met his audits, causing them to twist and move slowly; the hessian tilted his skulla to the side and snorted softly, nadars flaring out to show salmon hued innards, then slitting as life-giving oxygen was brought into his lungs. Ranjit's blood hued eyes shifted around, landing on the other equid that was lurking here; a mare within his herd, known as Diamond. Audits flicked back against his skull, then swivled forward as he moved again, hooves falling heavily and loudly onto the moist sound, soft sucking sounds being made as he pulled them back up; the noise was not for show, it was merely to alert to femmore to is presence.

The hessian moved his way up to stand several yards from her, hooves bringing him to stand on the edge of the creek. His neck lowered slowly as his muzzle dipped into the water, drawing the aqua into his mouth and allowing it to flow down his throat into his stomach. The hessian remained where he was for a few moments, just drinking slowly. Once he had had his fill of water, he lifted his muzzle out of the icy liquid and shook it slightly, sending crystal like drops of water spinning aout away from him and causing them to land back into the creek. The stud looked over at the mare, eyes guarded as always. He said nothing, merely dipped his brainpan to her.

Revolutionaries wait
For my head on a silver plate
Just a puppet on a lonely string
Oh, who would ever want to be king?

'cause love is nothing to waste, and i swore, never your heart should i break
the femmora let her soft orbs roll around the surrounding terrain. the air still had some bite to it; spring was setting in but many days it still felt like the end of winter. she wondered where she would go tonight to sleep; it had been awfully cold the last few moons and she had no reason to believe this night would be any different. she shook her dial softly; it was barely midday. she should have had other things to be thinking about than where she was going to sleep tonight. she worried entirely too much.

slick mud caked over the femme's daggers as she wandered around the creek bed. the ice had recently melted and left most of sloped ground very damp and mucky. she stayed clean as best she could, but it was nearly impossibly these days. she had nobody to impress anyway, she figured. nobody really paid much attention to her, which was alright, most days. she was good at pretending like she didn't mind. she was good at acting like she preferred to be alone though that was really far from the truth. if given the opportunity, she might just reach out. and it appeared that opportunity was fast approaching.

she heard him before she saw him. her muscles automatically tensed, a natural reaction. the footfalls sounded much heavier than her own, alluding to the fact that whoever was near was much larger than her. that made her nervous enough, but then she caught his scent, one that was not particularly familiar, but identifiable, nonetheless. she had pivioted slightly, her soft, kind orbs scanning for him, where she located him standing at the edge of the chilly aqua. she could tell that he was aware she was there; he did not speak and she did not expect him to. not only did he seem quiet the majority of the time, but she figured he had no real reason to acknowledge her. still, manners were something that diamond stuck by, something that she could not ignore, even when intimidated by his presence. she cleared her throat softly, stepping gingerly closer to him, though still quite a few yards off. she dipped her dial submissively. "good day, m'lord," she said quietly, harks pricked toward the steed.

When you're own have died
When there's no more pride
When your soul is frozen
Is that enough?

A low hiss escaped the hessian's tainted labrum as the current of Snakeskin suddenly increased and splashed iced aqua oner his daggers and up onto his cannons. A chill settled over the water-logged limbs; the hessian looked down for a long moment, watching as a layer of sheet formed on his feathers. A look of distaste passed across his crainium; the steed lifted his daggers from the sod and turned his chassis away from the rocky edge of Snakeskin Creek, heading more or less, towards the duo-hued vixen who was also sharing the space with him.

Towers flicked around to the mare, listening with interest as she spoke. A pleased look passed across his mug, gone in a flash, as though it was truly never there. Her words reached his brain and he dipped his skull to her once again, acknowledging the words she spoke. His kissers parted, 'Greetings, milady.' He spoke in low, soft tones, tones that rasped in his throat, likes stones grating against metal. It was as though someone or something had cut deeply into his throat once, missing the veins and hitting only his vocal cords, doing enough damage to make his voice rasp painfully in his throat.

Oxygenators flared open again, steam rolling out from them, giving Ranjit the look of a demonic being, instead of just a mere stallion. The hessian let his bloody orbs trail over the smaller vixen, admiring her two-toned pelt, then flicking up to stare into her own optics. Her hazel hued voids were softer and kinder than what the beast was used to seeing; they seemed so innocent, as though the mare had not seen the horrors of the world yet. But, maybe that was okay. Or perhaps she had and chose to ignore them, to carry on in her own world, not having a care for what happened around her. And maybe he was completely wrong. Who knew?

When your heart is broken
A thousand times
Will that be only?
Is that enough?

i discovered that my castles stand on pillars of salt and pillars of sand
she stood only slightly guarded, watching the steed with probably too much interest. she wondered if perhaps she should leave him; if he wanted to be alone. these were, after all, his lands, and though it was her home, she was a mere subject. one thing about diamond was that she'd always been almost too subjective; that would explain why she was here, anyway, not fled to one of the 'other sides'. she tended to just keep to herself, steer clear of everyone else. she was a very independent femme, and all she had ever really asked, by virtue of remaining on the terra, was for some kind of protection. so far, she'd received that, and she was unsure how to act in her king's presence as a result. still, she couldn't bring herself to move too far, especially when he spoke.

the sound of his voice came flooding to her perked harks, and she realized she'd almost forgotten what he sounded like. sure, she'd heard him talk before -- everyone had. but she'd never actually talked to him. she figured it was general courtesy, that she atleast acknowledge her king. if he didn't want anything to do with it, he would simply leave.. right? that would be nothing new. diamond was used to that. she had grown used to being alone. what was the worst that could happen?

it was true that diamond held that very innocent aura about her. she was kind, sometimes seen as far too kind, she was sure. many of those that she dwelled with had pretty big attitudes, had a lot of fire to them. but she was mild, gentle, polite, submissive. sometimes she wondered if she truly belonged here, but she did not have any desire to find out if there was a better life for her. she was happy here, in the most simple forms.

she blinked at him, wishing she had something intelligent to say. she wished that she knew what to say or how to act in his presence, but she did not. she barely knew how to interact at all, let alone with her king -- heaven help her. the femmora shook her dial slightly, tossing her tresses out of her eyes, off her warm neck. "how are you this afternoon? it's a nice day today, isn't it? " she asked softly, feeling somewhat stupid the moment the words left her kissers. it was likely he thought her to be a lunatic.

But the longest hours you'll have in your life
Are the ones you sit through to know if you're right
So I'll wait, but I pray that I'm wrong
Because I think I know what's going on

Harks swiveled constantly, moving always so that the hessian could make sure that they were alone in the land. It was not that he did not want company, it was that he did not want to be snuck up on. Banner rose and lashed his sides, forcing the pesty insects away from him, making them have to go and find another life-form to drink from. The King shifted his weight slightly, not uncomfortable in the silence, but merely waiting for it to be broken. Ranjit had a shocking amount of paitence, and was willing to allow the vixen to be the one who started the conversation.

The hessian looked down at his fores, annoyance flashing across his guarded visage. the steed lifted one leg and let it drop down harshly, breaking up the icy frost that had formed on his cannon. This action was repeated until only black-red fur remained on his legs. Again, the blood-red eyes met the mare's softer ones, paitent, if not a little kinder than normal. Odd, yes, because Ranjit was not often one who let any emotion show other than absolute coldness. There was a reason he had no friends.

Audits pricked sharply as her words flowed into his mind, asking how he was. He was quiet for a moment, waiting to see if she would add anything to the question and statement that had left her kissers. The steed shook his skulla after a moment, tossing dark red tresses out of his face as he watched her. 'I am fine, Diamond, thank you.' His words were polite and easy, the harshness in his tone slipping down just a touch. 'And you? are you fairing well?' A return question was always good to ask; the hessian was truly interested, however; he was King, he needed to know how his subjects were.

I'm gonna suffer for the rest of my life
But I will always find a way to survive
I'm not a failure, but I know what it's like
I can take it or leave it… or die

she shifted her own weight around a bit restlessly, though her movement was admittedly from nerves. she was trying to hold still but the cold earth was a nice excuse to shift between her daggers, stomping them lightly against the ground to rid them of the slush that had accumulated there. however, all it was doing was allowing her to stand in a puddle of mud, so she eventually willed her pistons to quit moving. her own harks were perked toward the steed, paying complete attention to him, though she was naturally very aware of her surroundings. she had to be, granted that she was usually alone. she had very little to distract her, that meant, but it also meant she was used to fending for herself. it was a subconcious action more than anything.

she waited patiently but also eagerly for his words; her soft hazel eyes blinked as he spoke, her banner switching lightly, passively, at her mottled flanks. she dipped her dial slightly again as she answered his question, almost caught off guard that he remembered her name. she was pleased, really. she knew it meant nothing but it was nice to have a name somewhere. it was nice, actually, that he was speaking to her; that she had anyone to talk to. it really was quite rare. she'd considered that perhaps she should start to make a friend or two, but nobody seemed too receptive of her. she knew that she was a little different so she didn't push them; that wasn't her nature at all, and this was satisfying her fine as far as social interaction was concerned. "that's good to hear. i am doing well myself, m'lord. i suppose just waiting for spring to set in completely. i've always quite liked the spring," she said, letting a faint smile paint her kissers.
